First, thank you for looking at our blog. We are a new brewery here in Albany NY, focused on experimental brewing and making beer in a small-scale environment that cannot be mass produced by large-scale breweries. There is a reason why iron maiden and mariachi bands play different guitars.
The name of our brewery harkens back to days before prohibition when capital area residents could get their beer at a different brewery every week for almost a year before repeating a brewery. It was possible to go several years before repeating a beer. One might spend a lifetime trying to fully appreciate all of the complexity of styles that were available locally. A perfect world indeed.
We hope that we can bring some variety back to Albany and the capital region and we hope other breweries will do the same. In fact, we hope to see a day when the world is so jam-packed with breweries that taking a trip to the next town would be all that would be necessary to discover many new beers.
Beers can be made in infinite variety, so why settle for well-worn products that are sold from coast to coast? Why sacrifice quality for repeatability? Every year malt and hop crops have different characteristics. It’s the brewer’s job to take advantage of those differences to make beers that are better than the year before.
We hope you’ll try our beer and we hope it convinces you that the beer industry should return to regional brewing. We hope you’ll continue to read our blog. We plan to use the blog to focus on homebrewing, beer styles and other fun topics. Enjoy the blog and please enjoy a good local beer.
